Supporting your tamariki to thrive from birth to five
The Well Child Tamariki Ora programme is a free series of health checks and support visits for all whānau with tamariki up to 5 years of age.
Our team of Registered Nurses and Kaitiaki use a kaupapa Māori approach to nurture the wellbeing, development and potential of your tamariki. We’re here to awhi you, your tamariki and your whole whānau – every step of the way.
Who is this service for?
What we offer
- Health and development assessments – reassurance your pēpi is reaching their milestones
- Whānau care and support – practical awhi for you and your whānau, including connecting you with other community services
- Health education – information that supports you and your whānau to respond to pēpi’s needs at the different stages of their development
- Enrolment with StoryTime Foundation (books in homes) – supporting early literacy with beautiful pukapuka
How does this service work?
Our team of registered nurses are specially trained to support you in your role as a parent or caregiver. The nurses are supported by a team of Kaitiaki who provide extra care as needed to help you get the most out of the service, and the best start for your tamariki.
Your nurse will carry out developmental assessments for your tamaiti at key stages from birth to five years,
Each visit is also a chance to kōrero with the nurse about anything that’s on your mind – from parenting and whānau issues to the health and development of your pēpi. This can include things like nutrition, breastfeeding, sleep, safety, behaviour, growth, hearing and vision.
We’ll visit you at your home, we can meet in our clinic or anywhere you feel most comfortable. You’ll hear from us when your pēpi is around:
- 4-6 weeks
- 8-10 weeks
- 3-4 months
- 5-7 months
- 9-12 months
- 15-18 months
- 2-3 years
- 4 years
The final visit is the B4 School Check – done between 4 and 4.5 years – which helps your tamariki to get the best possible start at school.
