Who can access this service?

Rotorua tamariki up to 5 years of age.

We come to your home or you can come to our clinic in Ohinemutu. Visits can also take place at preschools, marae and other community facilities that suit you.

How does it work?

Our Team of Registered Nurses have had additional training in supporting parents/caregivers and whānau to care for their pēpi and tamariki (preschool children). They will complete developmental assessments of your tamariki at varying stages between birth and 5 years as per the Nation Well Child Tamariki Ora Schedule. Our Nurses are also supported by a team of Kaitiaki who can provide extra care as required to help you get the most out of the service, and the best start for your tamariki. Each visit gives you the opportunity to discuss parenting, family issues, your child’s health and development (e.g. nutrition, breastfeeding, sleep, safety, behaviour, growth, hearing and vision).

The schedule

These visits take place when your child is a certain age. This is when you can expect to see us:

  • 4-6 weeks
  • 8-10 weeks
  • 3-4 months
  • 5-7 months
  • 9-12 months
  • 15-18 months
  • 2-3 years
  • 4 years

The B4 School Check

The B4 School Check is the last Well Child check that is done between 4-4.5 years of age. It is designed to help them get the best possible start at school. For more information about these checks click on the link below.
