Supporting Whānau from Pregnancy to Pēpi Care

Whether you’re hapū and looking for the right midwife, or adjusting to life with your newborn, we are here to awhi you every step of the way.

These services are designed to make sure you feel supported, informed, and empowered, no matter where you’re at in your journey.

Support to find a midwife, and connect with health and social services appropriate to your needs

Nurturing you and your pēpi from the very beginning
Our team of Midwives, Registered Nurses and Kaitiaki will awhi you and your whānau through your special hapūtanga (pregnancy) journey. We’re here to help make sure your pēpi gets the very best start in life – surrounded by aroha, support and care that understands your world.

Who is this service for?
Our service is for hapū māmā living in Rotorua. Partners, whānau and support people are welcome – we’re here for the whole whānau.

What we offer

  • one-on-one support in your home, at our clinic or anywhere you feel most comfortable
  • support to enrol with a midwife
  • help to access community services including:
    • registering with a doctor
    • maternal immunisations
    • free dental treatment (criteria applies)
  • hapū wānanga (antenatal classes)
  • access to safe sleep devices (criteria applies)
  • transport to medical appointments – midwife, doctor, scans, labs, specialist (criteria applies)


How does this service work?

We will support you and your whānau to connect with health and social services that match your needs.

If you have tamariki aged 0-5 years, we can also help with:

  • completing immunisations
  • registering with a doctor or dental service
  • connecting with a Well Child Tamariki Ora provider

We also offer support for hapū and post-partum māmā (those with pēpi in their first year of life) who may be experiencing distress or mental wellbeing challenges, through the Kia Māmā programme.

Mothercraft/hands-on practical support to care for pēpi

Supporting you every step of the way
We know how special it is to be a first-time parent and understand it isn’t always easy. Our team is here to awhi you with hands-on, practical support that builds your confidence as a parent.

Who is this service for?

  • first time hapū māmā
  • first time parents with a pēpi aged up to 12 months
  • whānau expecting a multiple birth – twins, triplets


What we offer

Mothercraft – hands-on practical support with:

  • breastfeeding or bottle feeding
  • safe sleep and sleep routines
  • reading your pēpi’s cues
  • settling and comforting a crying pēpi
  • bathing demonstrations


How does this service work?

The first relationship pēpi forms the foundation for lifelong wellbeing. Our kaimahi awhi first time māmā, pāpā, and their whānau to build strong bonds and healthy attachment – during hapūtanga and after your pēpi arrives.

We work closely with your midwife during hapūtanga and your Well Child Tamariki Ora nurse when pēpi arrives, offering support for as long as you need it.
