Supporting māmā through hapūtanga and beyond

Any māmā can experience perinatal mental wellbeing during hapūtanga (pregnancy) and up to a year after welcoming their pēpi.

Having a baby is a life-changing experience. It’s natural to feel a wide range of emotions – joy, love, tiredness, uncertainty. Difficult feelings start to affect your day-to-day life, you don’t have to go through it alone. We’re here to awhi you.

Who is this service for?

Our service is for hapū and post-partum māmā with pēpi aged up to 12 months, who are experiencing emotional distress or mental wellbeing challenges.

What we offer

  • One-on-one support in your home, at our clinic, or at anywhere you feel most comfortable
  • Group sessions to support māmā and whānau connect and support each other
  • Help to access other services when needed


Using a holistic approach, we offer early support focussed on developing coping strategies that help māmā, pēpi and whānau to thrive. Our kaimahi will awhi you in your parenting journey to build self confidence in becoming the māmā you aspire to be.

How does this service work?

You are at the centre of this journey. You decide what is right for you and your whānau, and what your support looks like.

Our kaimahi are skilled and compassionate staff, with knowledge in mental health and wellbeing, parenting, and child development. We focus on building strong relationships and supporting attachment between you and your pēpi.

We’ll awhi you to build confidence in your parenting journey while we listen, care and respond to the needs of you, your pēpi and whānau. Kōrero, assessments and activities, will help identify your strengths, develop a personalised wellbeing plan and connect you with the right services at the right time.
