Immunisation Clinic
helping protect tamariki and hapū māmā
In Aotearoa, there are free vaccines available at different stages of life — from pēpi and tamariki to rangatahi and adults. These are offered as part of a national programme designed to help protect whānau from preventable illnesses.
Many whānau choose to immunise to give their pēpi the best start in life. At Manaaki Ora, our team of registered nurses is here to awhi you through this process and answer any questions you may have.
Free phone 0800 348 2400 if you would like kōrero with one of our nurses.
Who is this service for?
- rangatahi and adults registered with any Manaaki Ora services
- hapū Māmā
- pēpi and tamariki aged 6 weeks to 4 years
Start the immunisation journey for your pēpi
Immunisations for pēpi begin during hapūtanga (pregnancy). Some diseases can be more serious while you’re hapū and immunisation helps protect both you and your unborn pēpi. While the vaccines do not affect your pēpi directly, you will naturally pass on some immunity. This means when they are born, they will have some protection until they are old enough to be immunised themselves. This is especially important for whooping cough.
After pēpi is born the next immunisation is 6 weeks of age. We recommended completing the 6-week immunisations with your doctor, as they also include a full newborn check to make sure pēpi is growing well.
We know some whānau may feel unsure or have questions about immunisations – and that’s okay. If there’s anything you’re wondering about, or if you’re not quite sure where to start, we’re here to help. One of our registered nurses can kōrero with you about what to expect and answer any pātai you may have.
If you need support to register with a doctor, please let your Well Child Tamariki nurse or Kaitiaki know and we can assist you with this.
